Self-Management Education Workshops

Participants and caregivers will gain confidence and meet others who deal with similar chronic conditions. Learn new ways to get through daily activities, manage physical and mental health wellness, and connect to new resources.

Self-Management Education Workshops are interactive, group workshops that include 6 weekly, 2.5 hour class sessions, led by two certified lay leaders.

Available Workshops

Building Better Caregivers

This workshop is designed for family caregivers of people with dementia and Alzheimer’s, brain injury, other conditions that affect memory, and those who can no longer live at home independently. Topics covered include caregiver stress, dealing with difficult care partner behavior, finding help, making decisions about treatment, housing, etc., communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals, dealing with caregiver and care partner difficult emotions, planning for future needs, and legal issues related to caregiving. 

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program

This workshop is designed to improve the self-management skills of people living with ongoing health issues. Conditions like arthritis, mental health conditions, chronic pain, cancer, or diabetes can cause those affected to lose physical conditioning and suffer health problems over many years. This program teaches new strategies that will give participants the confidence, motivation, and skills needed to manage living with a chronic health condition.

Diabetes Self-Management Program

This workshop is designed for people with prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, a family history of diabetes, and caregivers. Participants will make weekly action plans, share experiences, and help each other solve problems they encounter in creating and carrying out their self-management program.

Chronic Pain Self-Management Program

This workshop is designed to help participants live a healthy life with chronic pain by managing their symptoms. This program teaches new strategies that will give participants the confidence, motivation, and skills needed to manage living with chronic pain. Workshops are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.

Cancer: Surviving & Thriving

This workshop is designed for cancer survivors and caregivers to improve self-management skills. Topics covered include techniques to deal with symptoms of cancer and its treatment, such as fatigue, pain, sleeplessness, shortness of breath, stress, and emotional problems such as depression, anger, fear, and frustration.

BCBH-SD Worksite Wellness

Employer supported and designed for employees to learn techniques to deal with chronic conditions.

Self-study options are available. Participating in our in-person and virtual workshops is the best way to take full advantage of our evidence-based curriculum conducted by trained leaders. You’ll also benefit from group interaction with caregivers and others who deal with similar challenges and conditions. However, alternate options are available for small groups or self-study upon request.
